Benefits of this project

Mozambique is located on the eastern coast of Africa with 68% of its population living in rural parts of the country. This Eastern African country is home to 20 globally threatened bird species and over 200 endemic mammal species. With over 45% of the population living beneath the poverty line, the population relies heavily on its natural resources and forests for survival.

Historically home to vast mangrove estuaries and forests, Mozambique’s mangroves have been largely decimated and destroyed.

We alongside our tree planting partners are working with local communities to restore, replant and protect these precious forest systems.

This project provides stability against erosion and improves ocean and coral reef health

Why reforest in Mozambique?

Mozambique is home to extensive biodiversity and varying landscapes with forests at the core of its social, environmental, and economic well-being. However, more than 8 million hectares of forest (over 30,000 square miles) have been destroyed. Cyclones, floods, cutting down trees for firewood and charcoal, clearing large areas for farmland, and commercial logging are the leading causes of deforestation in Mozambique.
