Benefits of this project

We are planting trees in protected areas that have suffered from deforestation. Our tree planting partners in  Nicaragua work with local communities to restore forests that create natural habitats for endemic species meanwhile creating livelihood opportunities for impoverished households.

The Tropical humid forest species are providing food security for those living in extreme poverty through agroforestry in the area.

Central America

Central America has diverse ecosystems varying from tropical forests, subtropical forests, mountains, grasslands, mangroves, and wetlands. This region is home to thousands of plant, bird, reptile, mammal, and amphibian species. Some of these species do not exist anywhere else in the world.

Unfortunately, deforestation is threatening the flora and the fauna of Central America. The primary drivers of deforestation in Central America include illegal logging, poaching, mining, and the expansion of farming and grazing. Even protected areas in this region experience high rates of poaching and deforestation.

Project Key Facts

7,000

The number of native plant species in Central America in addition to 8,000 species of birds, reptiles, mammals and amphibians.
